In 2017, a group of academics from the Postgraduate Program in Psychology of the Department of Psychology of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), then the only existing program, created the Postgraduate Program in Psychology: Cognition and Behavior (PPGCOGCOM / UFMG). Considering the different theoretical and methodological perspectives of Psychology and related areas, this new program is a specialized and dedicated teaching and research space focused on the “investigation of cognitive and behavioral processes”.
Among the objects of study are the basic processes such as attention and memory and the more complex processes such as symbolic behavior and language, which are studied both in healthy individuals and in individuals with specific psychological and cognitive disorders. In this context, PPGCOGCOM / UFMG develops theoretical and applied research, the latter being in the areas of evaluation (e.g. the cognitive and behavioral patterns that characterize the personality and the individual differences in intelligence) and intervention (e.g. in learning and behavioral problems).
